Want to start your weekend off right?
Pick up any of these two amazing books by Lisa Feldman Barrett.
1.
How Emotions Are Made
I got this book this week and finished it already. So many amazing things to unpack.
A few things from my notes:
Your anxiety may be caused by your brain having too much input and ineffective predictions.
You can change your present to create your future.
The brain is always making concepts (increase your conepts so your brain has more to pull from)
The brain predicts whats going to happen, but also what is causing it
When you experience something, the brain doesn’t ask what is this, the brain asks what is this like from past experience. (It remembers bits and pieces from the past)
Also, the data on how inaccurate the emotion detection software is, is a nice read as well as a piece on Emotional Intelligence.
2. 7 1/2 Lessons about the brain:
A collection of essays, which if you want to skip the science and data is a quick read you can get done in a day.
One action plan:
-I’ve committed to increase my concepts and learn new ones (started making a list with a thesaurus) -Reframing/ recategorize some of my experiences
If you have already read it, what are some of your takeaways
P.S - my daughter thought the balloon 🎈 was a nice idea, as a celebration to reading the books
