The Behavior Design Methodology we are currently developing will look something like this (it's a work in progress still, so comments are welcome)
This is what a full process could look like, but the nice thing is that it can also be broken down depending on your organization, your challenge, your understanding of the problem, and your current knowledge of applying behavior to design.
That means that some teams may start at the beginning, and some may already have enough information that they could start later.
The process is broken down into the following
Pre-Flight: -Define the brief -Request the research available (if any) -Prepare interviews -Prepare Workshops -Any other prep
Discovery -Get into the data -Do the interviews -Do literature reviews -Do competitor analysis -Do a problem discovery workshop
Define -Map the actors and system (if you can) -Map the journey of your actor -Define the behaviors you want to influence on -Define the Business Opportunities -Map the Barriers using COM-B -Select and Prioritize the Barriers
Build your Behavioral Statement (if you have this, then you can start from Develop)
Develop -Map the Barriers to the Intervention Functions -Map Interventions to Execution Options -Ideate Solutions -Literature Review for Solutions -NEAR-AFAR Check -Solution Prioritization
Design (your intervention via a sprint - may not be needed if small project) This can be done in a design sprint. The activities/artifacts below are representatives, they will vary depending on your project. They are only indicative -Benchmarking -Storyboard -Crazy 8's -Value Proposition -Prototype -Testing -Validation -Iteration
Deliver -Prototype -Documentation -Recommendations -Final Report
Develop Should you not want to do a sprint, you could then test, iterate and go straight to development and implementation.
The board we are working on with Elina Halonen will not include design, deliver and develop phases as it would require a whole other board to do this.
