"Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious, and adding the meaningful." - Dr. John Maeda

I often remind the people I work with or train that simplifying is key to understanding and achieving sophisticated results.

Hence why I love John's quote, as it encapsulates this idea perfectly.

It suggests that by removing unnecessary elements and highlighting what truly matters, we can create something powerful and effective.

In product design, for example, by subtracting unnecessary elements and adding meaningful ones, we can create products that are easy to navigate and understand.

In service design, we can simplify the customer journey by removing friction and streamlining the process.

One behavioral insights framework you can use to guide you is the EAST framework.

EAST stands for Easy, Attractive, Social, and Timely.

When we simplify information and make it easy to understand, it becomes more attractive to people.

So, rather than getting caught up in jargon and overly complicated explanations, let's focus on simplifying the complex.

Follow principles that make the complex understandable and meaningful, and you'll be on your way to creating human-centered experiences.
