Here is a great way to "Stretch your ideas" before moving them forward.

I created a board (sharing this one for you all to view on Miro) - but you can also create an excel, table, pdf or put it on a whiteboard at work.

Do this after you have identified your intervention types and defined your behavior change techniques.

Idea Stretcher:

1) Take your initial ideas and put them in Column A

2)Think of the most extreme version of each idea in column A and write it in column B, regardless of whether it’s possible (watch out B is not in the column next to A)

3)Scale back the extreme version of each idea, into something more possible, albeit still challenging, and write this in column C.

4)Take the ideas in column C, and turn them into something achievable but still ambitious. Write these in column D.

5)New Ideas (If any are sparked)

Once the new ideas are sparked, you need to make sure you score them

Use something like APEASE to ensure you look out for unintended consequences.

-Acceptability: How far is it acceptable to all key stakeholders? -Practicability: Can it be implemented as designed within the intended context, material and human resources? -Effectiveness: How effective and cost-effective is it in achieving desired objectives in the target population? -Affordability: How far can it be afforded when delivered at the scale intended? -Side-effects: How far does it lead to unintended adverse or beneficial outcomes? -Equity: How far does it increase or decrease differences between advantaged and disadvantaged sectors of society?

How do you stretch your initial ideas?

I am really curious 🤔

Credit to the idea stretcher to Pam Hamilton, who had a nice example in her book The Workshop book - which I highly recommend.

Give me your comments in Miro or here, in case you think there is something to improve on it.

I'll be adding this one to my free tools and frameworks and explaining more about it soon.

I added the APEASE on the board, and a concept card
