Follow these 3 steps if you want to get results and drive behavior change
1. Map
Behavioral system mapping helps us move away from the incomplete approach to change which focuses on the individual and fails to account for the system.
In your organization it will help you when:
-You don't fully understand the problem and have a hard time thinking about the solution -Different stakeholders may want to do different things -The problem tends to connect to other problems and the environment (most do) -You want to work on sustained change and not a one-off thing
2. Diagnose
Using behavioral models is going to help your organization:
-Be specific about the behaviors you can work on -Find the barriers and tensions that need to be addressed first -Know which levers are available to address the barriers -Save money, time and resources knowing what you can and can't change
***If you get this part wrong, you will be creating great solutions that will change nothing and you will be wondering what went wrong...Superficial work in this area - will give you disappointing results!
3. Manage
The Journey helps us zoom in and pick target areas of the system to then go into more detail, to be more specific about what we will be working on.
It also helps align teams, communicate with stakeholders and manage the process.
There are many different zoom levels you can have in journeys, from high level to micro journeys.
Using these together has given us great results in different areas from healthcare, finance and government.
What is stopping you and your organization from working this way?
