Workshop vs Sessions - does the language and design matter?
I have over the last years, facilitated hundreds of workshops/sessions with stakeholders.
Usually when you frame the time you have with them as a workshop, they don’t always get excited.
They have done some workshops before and didn’t find them to be comfortable (too heavy on creativity, play, post-it’s etc)
Depending on what I am trying to achieve, I may change the wording, go from Workshop to a working Session and design it differently, so stakeholders can get the insights without so much of the play.
Not everyone is an extroverted, lego serious play, artist, and that’s ok 👍🏻.
Here I was working with a team on a technology strategy, kept the teams focused, working and engaged.
I always ask for feedback to include after the sessions to improve and iterate, and so far it has worked well.
I find it does work welll with more complex organizations and perhaps a startup would want more bells and whistles in their sessions.
The important thing is to empathize with your stakeholders and be prepared to change and adapt.
What is everyone’s experience on this?
