When designing for behavior, we need to be specific, so we don't mix up behaviors and outcomes. (and influences)

Focusing on the specific behavior(s):

1) Helps you think more tangibly 2) Makes outcomes more precise 3) Is necessary in order to understand what barriers we must remove

When we design for behavior change, we determine the outcome we want to see and work to define the behaviors, influences, and strategies that are needed to reach that outcome in a logical way. (We recommend building a logic model)

In everyday life, we are typically used to thinking about outcomes both in our personal and professional lives (and not so much in behaviors) so making the mental switch to thinking about the tangible behaviors can sometimes be tricky!

That is why it is important to spend time with your employees and customers, to understand what behaviors you want to enable them to do.

If we want to increase engagement for example - we need to think of the actions (behaviors) that would lead to an increase in engagement (outcome)

Remember, there is always a behavioral goal even if it’s not explicit.
