What are behavior change techniques?

They are the active components within your interventions - these are the actual things that are meant to help enable behavior change.

There are 93 Techniques that come from the Behavior Change Techniques Taxonomy, which are grouped into 16 categories.

Some examples of Behavior Change Techniques can be:

1.1 Goal Setting (behavior)  Set or agree on a goal defined in terms of the behavior to be achieved

Example: Agree on a daily walking goal (e.g. 3 miles) with the person and reach agreement about the goal

9.2 Pros and cons Advise the person to identify and compare reasons for wanting (pros) and not wanting to (cons) change the behavior

Example: Advise the person to list and compare the advantages and disadvantages of prescribing antibiotics for upper respiratory tract infections

If you want to learn more about how to use these and see a case study, you can get my Behavior Design Basics course where I cover this and more...
