No model is ever going to be perfect.... and that's ok....
One thing that I have learned while incorporating behavior insights into my work and the work of the clients we have at Aim For Behavior is how important it is to understand different theories and models and to use them as thinking tools.
Going back to some past research by H. Taherdoost 2018 "A Review of Technology Acceptance and Adoption Models and Theories" which discusses various theories and models that are used to explain and predict human behavior related to technology adoption, I wanted to provide you all a small summary:
The paper talks about and compares different models like:
-Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT) -Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) -Technology-Information-Behavior (TIB) -Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) -Social Cognitive Theory (SCT)
These theories /models come from different fields such as sociology and social psychology and have been used to explain behavior in different contexts.
Some of these theories focus on the behavior of individuals, while others focus on adoption decisions that are influenced by organizational characteristics.
Additionally, some theories focus on the perceived outcomes when forecasting behavior while others focus solely on beliefs about the technology.
Some of these will overlap and for each project, you may combine different models.
Use the findings of models and theories as new thinking tools that will help you with the processes you already have and that can increase adoption and decrease risk and costs.
