Is preparation/ planning your form of procrastination?
Does it stop you from actually taking action on the habits and outcomes you are hoping for?
We are all great at planning, at having great intentions to do things, be it eating better, working out, writing a book 📕.
However, more often than not, we never seem to get out of the planning and preparing phase, and hence not always do we put things into action.
This is why we need to mind the gap between intention and action.
Now, it’s not entirely our fault, we face many barriers to take action, and we need systems to help us.
This is where understanding behavior can help, and where behavior design can be used
Taking away the barriers to help you close the gap and get into action.
Those barriers can be psychological, like biases, mental models, habits and also pshysical like the signup of a website or the purchase of a product in a store.
Understanding the context of where things happen and mapping all the micro moments that it takes to complete something is vital, it is here that you start uncovering those “aha” moments
It is the same for your customers, they also have great intetions to sign up, buy your product, use your product, recommend others, but the gap keeps them from doing this.
Human centered design is great and useful, but you have to make sure to include behavior so you truly can understand why your customers are struggling to do the action you are trying to get them to do.
P.S - At the moment, I am also stuck in intention mode.. but with a training course on behavior, hence why the post, so I can keep myself accountable, mind the gap and take action.
What action are you stuck on taking?
