Here is a fantastic book - one of the best out there if you are working on digital products and behavior change.

The moment I opened Engaged by Amy Bucher, I knew it was going to be one of those books that you have at hand when you need to design for behavior.

What can you expect in the book 📕?

Amy talks about things like motivation and basic psychological needs and references Self Determination Theory.

Weas designers have to make sure we design for autonomy, competence and relatedness in our digital products.

She also talks about drivers of behaviour and the COM-B model/ Behavior Change Wheel and gives some great examples.

Take COM-B - she gives you guidance on questions to probe:

In Capability

Can the person explain how to do the behaviour?

In Opportunity

What kinds of time or schedule constraints affect the behaviour?

In Motivation

What are the persons goals?

She also gives you tips on how to solve ability blockers:

-Look at the frequency of a blocker -The cost and effort to overcome the blocker -The alignment with your product

Other tips she gives:

1.

How to use feedback

A) Measuring something B)Offer feedback at multiple levels C)Add info about what others do D) Find a frequency E) Tee up the next action

And also - she talks about how to design for the future self - including:

-Goals -Setting plans

Amy helped me with feedback on the Behavior Design for Business Framework and continues to be a kind and thoughtful leader in the behavioral science space.

You can find Amy’s book on the Aim For Behavior website - under Book club.
