Have you heard of the Behavioural Drivers Model?
This model from UNICEF and University of Pennsylvania looked at 25 behavior theories and models. (they have a description of each and main takeways in the paper they published)
The model is meant to help answer two questions:
1. Why do people do what they do? 2.
How do we influence what they do?
The model has three main areas for change:
-Psychology - individual cognitive and emotional drivers -Sociology - interactions with family, communities and society at large -Environment - structural elements - such as policies, systems, services, information etc
Under each area there are two levels of depth
Level 1 drivers - main drivers or what they call factors Level 2 drivers - each factor is unpact into several dimensions
There are other models like ISM or COM-B out there (and many more) to understand and classify behavior - it is important to understand them because depending on what you are working on they can be helpful.
It is also important to know that there is no such thing as a better model than another - this is very contextual and driven by what you are working on.
What you should be learning is how to think about behavior, how to account for the system, how to understand influences, how to look at evidence, theories and models, how to be systematic in your approach and how to make sure that you build solid hypothesis to test.
