Do you thinking Behavior Change needs a makeover?

If so, you have to get over the mental model of behavior change as:

-A set of cognitive biases -As system 1 and 2 -As a Nudge -Focused only on the individual -Driven mainly by communications

Your challenges have evolved, and so should the way you approach them.

What I would like to point out to you about change, is that you need to be open to a new perspective

That perspective is going to form when you are able to realize that one tool/ approach alone is not to going to be enough for the job.

Explore how other disciples contribute to change and use those tools where needed and in the right context.

You need tools and thinking from: (to name a few)

1. Psychology 2. Anthropology 3.

Sociology 4. Culture (Cultural Evolution) 5. Decision science 6.

Implementation science 7. Systems Thinking 8. Human-Centered Design

From my experience in this field, from advising and consulting and from working with very talented and smart people, in both government and fortune 500 companies is that there is no way you can drive change with the old ways of working.

It takes understanding the context, the norms, beliefs, the incentives, policies, environment and so much more, because change requires a holistic approach.

I am not writing this to overwhelm you, but to help succeed.

You don't need to be a master of all of these, no one person can be - but most organizations havevery talented people that can form multidisciplinary teams to help drive change.

Believe in yourself and your organization… you can do this, and you can achieve change - you just have to be open and know that the times you are in require a different approach.

How are you approaching change?
