Do streaks have to exist in products?

It seems that more and more products I try are incorporating streaks as part of a behavioral design feature.

In my case, and for those products, they don’t really help me or motivate me.

Maybe it is the way they are designed, showing me that I am on a streak only after doing something once. (That doesn’t make my brain 🧠 excited, and actually it makes me think it’s not genuine )

I would like to have more autonomy on how I control my streaks and perhaps see something pop-up when I have actually been going for longer and with a bit more thought.

I wonder how many of these companies (not singling anyone out), understand behavior and behavior science and use it as a lens when deciding to incorporate streaks.

See, with everything that Is behavior, context matters alot, and the issue I can see from many interventions is that teams will just copy something because they see someone else do it.

Can streaks work, of course… but you got to know why you are putting it in your product.
