This is my pledge to using behavioral science, what’s yours?
I am very fortunate to be able to work on some really interesting and important challenges and opportunities.
This year has thus far been busy but rewarding, so I reflected on the work, the people we are enabling and the governments and organizations we are helping.
This led me to write this pledge, which I hope inspires you to write your own.
I commit to:
• Using theories, models and frameworks to help me think about the challenge or opportunity in front of me. • Including context into the work I do. • Being systematic and scientific. • Accounting for and documenting ideas related to unintended consequences or spillover effects and to making plans to address them when possible. • Never calling myself an expert. • Not positioning or selling behavior as magic. • Go beyond the individual and to account for the system. • Share my learnings with others, so they can also benefit. • Continuously learn and to adapt as needed. • Not blindly copy any tactics, techniques or nudges. • Using behavioral science as a thinking tool and not as an “absolute truth”. • Using evidence as a guide, but know that it might need translation for my specific situation (testing is key).
What would you add?
