In this week's Frontline Be Sci Laura de Molière makes the case for the importance of understanding how the general public understand and engage with the risks of AI.
A key issue, Laura points out, is that if the general public cannot form risk perceptions, grounded in a solid understanding of potential future scenarios, there is a real danger that policy makers efforts to manage this will simply not align with public interests.
With that in mind we need to use behavioural science to understand how risk perceptions are formed by launching consultation with the general public who can then voice their views, needs, and values.
