How do you build habits for yourself, your team, or your products and services?

From my experience, building habits can have a much higher rate of success if you can match likes and strengths to the habit you are trying to design for.

When I work with teams, one of the exercises I like to run includes looking at:

-Strengths -Weaknesses -Likes -Dislikes

Once you define these you can start to match the habits and find opportunities to design things that teams/customers/you will enjoy doing and that will help them succeed more.

It is very difficult to build new habits if you don't match (though not impossible)

This is because your brain has set up a hierarchy of rewards and it will of course go for things it likes to do over things it does not.

If you are still set on building habits around things you don't enjoy (yet), you are going to have to change the reward value of those things and slowly re-wire your brain to see rewards in the things you don't like, so eventually, your brain will recognize the new reward.

Would love to know how you approach habits and routines and if you have ever thought about it from this like/dislike perspective.
