How could Linkedin improve their platform for you?

As you can see from the image shared by Richard van der Blom - most Linkedin Engagement is down…

Which makes you think about how the platform is designed and how the designers/ stakeholders make decisions that affect the users.

One way Linkedin could be looking at this from a user perspective could be with this Behavioral Science framework called APEASE

Let me illustrate:

1. Acceptability:

• Do users find value in the increased content and promotional posts? Are they finding the platform more engaging, or do they feel overwhelmed? • Is the shift in line with users’ expectations for professional networking?

2. Practicability: • Is it easy for users to navigate the platform, filter content, and engage with topics relevant to their interests and professional goals? • Can users easily create and edit content

3. Effectiveness: • Are users able to achieve their professional and personal development goals through the content and opportunities presented? • Do they feel the content enhances their industry knowledge, networking opportunities, or career advancement?

4. Affordability: • While this traditionally pertains to cost, it could relate to time. Is the time users spend sifting through or engaging with content seen as a worthwhile investment? • Are premium features that might enhance the content experience seen as valuable?

5. Side-effects/safety: • Are users exposed to spam, misinformation or content that could harm their professional standing or development?

6. Equity: • Do all users, from entry-level professionals to industry veterans, find content and promotional opportunities relevant to their career stage and interests? • Are users from various backgrounds and locations able to access and benefit from the content equally?

Do you feel like any of these resonate with you?

How could Linkedin be better?
